I’m a big Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) enthusiast. I have a Samsung Gear VR, and pre-ordered the Oculus Rift. I don’t think the consumer VR industry will explode until a company can manufacture the "Model T" of VR headsets. My gut says it will be mobile, once phones have the power and fidelity (4K, audio, etc.) to render amazing detail. Maybe the iPhone 8? Do many 20-somethings even own a home PC anymore? The masses like (and buy) cool, fun, social, and simple. The killer app will either be an amazingly fun game with mass appeal or a social app that generates your VR avatar from a selfie, then lets you “hang out” in real time with your friends and family in "virtually" any real world or fantasy-based environment. Interestingly, some industry experts think Augmented Reality will eventually be more popular and commercially successful than Virtual Reality. Especially once products like Google Glass become more powerful and affordable.
